GWR 1450 is an 0-4-2T built in 1935 as one of the 48XX class and withdrawn in 1965 after working 823,012 miles. It is privately owned and on loan from its usual base at the Dean Forest Railway. It is seen here between two auto-trailers and can be driven from either end of the train as well as from the footplate in the middle. Even in auto mode there is a fireman on the footplate. I would guess that they never usually ran with an auto-trailer at each end in pre-preservation days but perhaps somebody knows better.
