On the rear of the monument is a section commemorating the fallen of WWII, but this is essentially a memorial to the 717 sons of Inverness who didn't return from the Great War of 1914-1918. The base of sandstone cross beside the River Ness carries each of their names. Around the monument are well tended beds of vividly coloured flowers.
