For setting see Image . This stone is marked on the 1898 OS map http://maps.nls.uk/view/103681922 as 'B.S.W.D. No.9'. It is one of several (looks like 13 of them) in the immediate surroundings of the castle. BSWD stands for 'Boundary stone - War Department' . I only thought to look at this map after reading an informative description by Geograph contributor Lairich Rig, about WD boundary markers at Dumbarton Image .
