Digging the stuff up. Afterwards chemicals are used to stop regeneration. There have been several successful eradications along the coast in recent years. Unlike other invasives, buckthorn is tolerated in places as it is a very rich bird habitat and food source - but it must be watched and contained as it spreads very quickly.
