The Council serves a scattered rural community of 300 residents occupying an area of about 23 square kilometres in the lower Usk Valley just north of the city of Newport. The community boundary encloses an area of outstanding natural beauty to just to the east of the town of Usk stretching from Gwernesney in the north and running southwards between the eastern bank of the river Usk and the Wentwood ridge as far as Gypsies Tump on the road to Bulmore and Caerleon. The Community Council exists to act as a sounding board for the local community and makes representation on behalf of residents on local issues to the County Council and other bodies. It has a statutory right to be consulted on all matters which affect the local community and planning, highways, crime watch and environmental matters feature strongly in its work. The Council area consists of the electoral wards of Gwernesney & Llantrisant and has 7 elected members, 3 representing the Gwernesney Ward and 4 representing the Llantrisant Ward. Elections to the council are normally held every 4 years. The next community council elections will be in May 2017. The Council meets in the Courtroom of the Sessions House, Maryport Street, Usk every two months - January, March, May, July, September and November. Meetings are held usually on the second Thursday of the month and start at 7:15 pm. Notice of meetings are posted in Usk Public Library, on the Council website and sometimes on noticeboards located in Gwernesney, Llanllowell (this one) and Llantrisant Village (bus shelter). The AGM is in May each year prior to the business meeting.
