John Green was one of the crew of the Hecla under Captain Parry (explorer). Rear Admiral Sir William Edward Parry, RN, FRS as he was to become, was an English Arctic explorer. His 1819 voyage through the Parry Channel was probably the most successful in the long quest for the Northwest Passage. John Green, according to his headstone was the last surviving member of that Arctic expedition. Presumably his headstone bears a likeness of the Hecla.
