Built in 1774 to connect Bath to the newly built town of Bathwick. The bridge is named after Frances Pulteney, wife of William Johnstone MP and first cousin of William Pulteney, 1st Earl of Bath. It seems a shame that we can't just find out who she was in her own right, rather than vaving to filter her through the lens of her male relatives, but never mind. The bridge is one of only four worldwide to feature shops built along its entire length on both sides.
