The Midland Railway's Green Park Station, also known as Queen Square and opened in 1870 as the terminus of its line from Mangotsfield. In 1874, trains on the Somerset & Dorset's line from Bournemouth began to use the station, creating a link via the Midland network to the North of England: the "Pines Express", a service between Manchester and Bournemouth, was probably the most famous train to use the S&D line. The station was closed, along with both the lines serving it, in March 1966 and was derelict for many years until an agreement was reached with Sainsbury's Supermarket in the early 1980s for restoration of the site incorporating a new supermarket. Richard Green's Image was taken from very nearly the same spot back in 1963.
