A look into the Image reveals that while it contains a phone, there is no receiver - just the wires poking out where it should be. This style of telephone box, the K8, was a familiar sight in the 1980s and 1990s, a successor to the even more well known K6 box which is still commonplace in towns and villages today. The K8, however, has almost been wiped out completely and it is reckoned that there may be as few as a dozen left in service. Two of them are in Highworth - see Image for the other.
