The New Inn is not very new. It is recorded in Pigot and Co.'s national commercial directory as early as 1828, when it was in the hands of a "Jno. Stanley". It stands opposite the former wharf at the terminus of the Derby Canal Little Eaton Branch, where cargoes were transferred between the canal and the Little Eaton Gangway.
