Dove Cottage was home to the romantic poet William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy between 1799 and 1808. The Wordsworth Trust first opened the cottage to the public in 1891. The garden, seen here in the foreground, was restored by The Trust and is said to be similar to the garden the Wordsworths created during their time at Dove Cottage, in which they planted local native species of plants and chose a less formal arrangement for their landscaping.
