The Environment Agency sign gives its clumsy but apparently descriptive name. However the sluice on the other side of the railway is 'North West', so shouldn't this be 'South East'? Perhaps 'East' is reserved for sluices on the Suffolk side of the estuary. This is the land side of the tidal flap sluice.
