The handsome building just beyond the Fire Station was built to house the offices of the Coulsdon and Purley Urban District Council, a part of Surrey. But sadly that local government unit disappeared in 1967 when it was subsumed into the London Borough of Croydon. This left the building with no real function and it is now awaiting redevelopment as apartments. At least they are not going to pull it down, which would have been a pity as it is one of the best modern buildings in the area.
