This was a 2400 MW coal fired power station that commenced operating in 1973 and closed on 24 March 2016. When completed it was then the largest coal fuelled power station in Europe and at closure was still the third largest. The four large water tube boilers generated steam at 168 bar, 568 deg C and each burnt 250 tonnes of coal/hour to produce about 180 tonnes of steam/hour. Each boiler supplies two 300 MW turbines (it was more usual to have one boiler and one turbine). The chimney is 600' tall. Photographed from the approach to the Kincardine Bridge.
