The little track is a public right of way, a byway open to all traffic (or B.O.A.T.), leading the short distance from Throop Road to the edge of the River Stour. There is no onward access in either direction along the riverside, but the historical reason for the right of way appears to be that there was once a ford leading diagonally across the river to Pig Shoot Lane. Having just gone through the gate, we are looking across it here, back towards Throop Road.
