Fanny Cradock (her name is incorrectly spelt on this plaque) is largely forgotten now, but in the 1960s and '70s she was very much a household name. Her popular television cookery programmes were a forerunner of the myriad of such shows nowadays available, and also featured her hapless husband Johnny. She led a colourful life in other ways, but was born in a house on this site that belonged to her maternal grandparents, named after a villa in Somerset where her grandfather had been born. The site is now occupied by flats.
