Originally built in 1941 as RAF Defford. The Telecommunications Flying Unit TFU carried out Radar flight trials for TRE from 1942 : onwards https://www.entrust.org.uk/case-studies/raf-defford-heritage-centre/ . After the war Flying for the Royal Radar Establishment moved to Pershore and an interferometer was built at Defford: two large dishes mounted on railway lines could move along the old runways. When SRDE from Christchurch moved to Malvern in the 1970s to form the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment Deford was turned into a satcom site.
