The court, designed by Sir Giles Scott, was built from 1923-34 to commemorate the men of the college who died in The Great War. During and after The Great War this land and that on which the University Library stands were the site of The First Eastern Hospital (http://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/from-the-front-to-the-backs-story-of-the-first-eastern-hospital ) and a memorial, carved by the Cardozo Kindersley Workshop, was recently completed - see Image
