Force Crag Quarry is the only example of an extractive industry operating in upper Teesdale in 2016; it's a surprisingly large and hideously intrusive affair on the north bank of the River Tees and is unseen by travellers on the main valley road. The road seen here is the access road; it's also the route of a public footpath
