Sad to see, yet perhaps in a few more years this area will be thriving once more. If only I'd had a camera to record the scene when I first travelled on a Mid Tyne ferry from Newcastle Quayside to the piers and back about 1957. This linked picture was taken in 1964 from a Norway ferry moored at Tyne Commission Quay, this side of today's DFDS ferry that goes to Holland just visible to the left of the main photo; www.flickr.com/photos/59662214@N06/6304039316 It's a reverse view. The river was then lined with vessels under construction, repair, or being loaded and unloaded.
