The Hope Inn has served its last. What was once a bustling Mock Tudor pub in the south of the town, has been shut by its owners a few years ago. The plan to demolish it outraged the locals and provoked concerted efforts to prevent it. An Asset of Community Value was granted. The pub, however, is not a listed building so the owners pulled the roof down regardless. Now the building is in a rapidly deteriorating state, permission has finally been given to finish it off. In its place will be a residential development, if all goes to plan.
