This monumental bust is dedicated to Stapleton Cotton, Viscount Combermere, GCB,KSI,GCH. It is sited at the West end of St. Mary & St. Michael, Burleydam. Viscount Stapleton fought alongside The Duke of Wellington and was commemorated locally by having 3 public houses named after him or battles he was involved in. In the nearby village of Aston the pub is called The Burthpore, and in nearby Wrenbury there is the Cotton Arms. There also was a pub called The Salamanca, but this was converted into a private dwelling some 25 years ago
