The streamlined stern on Shroppie flyboat Saturn is unusual for canal boats and reflects her thoroughbred status. Saturn is a restored Shropshire Union flyboat built in 1906 for the cheese trade from Shropshire and Cheshire. She continued in service horsedrawn until the 1950s. Fly-boats were the express transport of the canal system operated by a crew of four working day and night to strict timetables with priority over other traffic except passenger boats. They would collect and deliver goods to warehouses along the route.
