Opened by the Queen this year (2007), the new Media Centre in Friendly Street is a glass-clad five storey building which "will be a landmark for Huddersfield, and will be the first of its size in the UK to feature a double-skin frame, creating a unique cooling system instead of the usual mechanical comfort cooling which is so harmful to the environment. The Centre will become a beacon for creative businesses, displayed through a commissioned programmable l.e.d. lighting design illuminating the façade of the new building."
