View eastwards from the A1 bridge over the ex-NBR main line to Berwick and the south. This major Depot a mile or so east of Edinburgh Waverley station was squeezed into a confined site: the main Shed was on the north side of the main line - hidden here by the signal-box, but many of the 200 or so engines were serviced on the south side, leading unusual difficulties and dangers.
