The tower dates from 1737, replacing an earlier one that collapsed the previous year. It was designed by Stamford architect George Portwood, and built in Ketton Stone my Jackson & Chaplin. The tower is not in a conventional place, being mid-way along the south wall. There is no way in from the church, but rather the ringers and clockwinders have to use this small external door
