When I was a young man this whole corner was occupied by the local business of Furley & Hassan, as a department store. Furley's was an old established Oakham business, and the name still appears over the door of the 2-story older section on the left, though this particular business is of more recent foundation. The most obvious buildings date from the 19th century, but behind them are the 18th century post office. (Francis Frith, of course, has this in a postcard: http://www.francisfrith.com/oakham/oakham-catmos-street-c1967_o2073 ) A little way down Burley road opposite is the Whipper-in hotel.
