Bowmore: the post office

Bowmore originally got a post office in about 1775, located in what is present-day Bridgend (see Image]). On 19 January 1847 a second office, here in the main village, was opened, named Bowmore Village. Twelve years later, on 7 October 1859, the office down at Bridgend was renamed Bridgend, and the 'Village' was thus dropped from the newer Bowmore branch. The present office is housed within the southern two thirds of this modern building towards the top of Main Street. It presumably moved here in relatively recent times as the village's main postbox is down by the harbour, rather than outside the office.
