This rather elegant, though now dilapidated, frontage is the facade of the 1822 gas works. The octagonal towers at either end housed the gas holders. The building was renovated in the 1970's but has fallen into disuse again. Update: Renovation 2009: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1239752
