In 1860 the Beverley Poor Law Union commissioned a new workhouse, designed by John & William Atkinson of York. West House, the principal building, opened in 1861. Grade II Listed Building https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1221333 In 1930 the workhouse became The Institution and was taken over by the East Riding Council. In 1939 the buildings became Westwood General Hospital, to serve the town of Beverley. In 2012 the hospital site became redundant. In 2014 planning permission was granted to the P.J. Livesey Group to redevelop the site for private housing, to be known as Westwood Park. In Phase I the main hospital block is now The Manor House, Atkinson Way, a development of 'spacious apartments'. Depicted is the rear of the block, originally the entrance to the hospital. Access is restricted whilst building works continue, hence the limited view in this image.
