View from the north. The exterior of the building largely represents the 15th century rebuilding, in Perpendicular style, the tower being 13th century, Early English. Listed Grade I. The church was under the control of Selby Abbey from the 12th century, and although always effectively the parish church, was occupied by two resident monks, one of whom was entitled Prior, this situation lasting through various disputes until the dissolution of Selby Abbey in 1539. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/yorks/vol3/pp100-101
