Capt Michael Flood (Max) Blaney b.1910 was a heroic RE bomb disposal officer who died when a UXB he was dismantling during the London Blitz exploded. A native of Newry, a blue plaque on the house in Bridge Street commemorates his bravery. The house is now a Simon Community office. http://www.hidden-gems.eu/down%20-%20blaney%20GC.pdf
