The Ouse in Felmersham normally floods several times most years. The row of posts marks the field boundary on the far bank of the river, with the flood plain beyond. The road crosses the flood plain with a catwalk for pedestrians. In 2000 the floods covered the catwalk. In July 2007, the police have taken the unusual step of closing both the road and catwalk, although the catwalk is still dry, and have mounted a patrol to enforce this.
