The station, which was opened in 1910, is located on Vera Avenue shortly before the road joins The Grangeway. It was built to provide commuter services into central London at a time when the area was undergoing extensive residential development. The station serves the Hertford Loop line, providing services between London King's Cross or Moorgate and Letchworth, Stevenage, Hitchin and Hertford North. When this image was taken, the train services were operated by Great Northern. Apart from a small section of the building which is still used as the ticket office, the bulk of the station was converted into a children's nursery in 2001.
