On the 75th anniversary of the death of Amy Johnson, pioneer airwoman, the city of her birth is celebrating her life, achievements and legacy. http://amyjohnsonfestival.co.uk/ Following a public subscription, a statue of Amy was unveiled in 1974. It is carved in Portland stone by the sculptor Harry Ibbetson. The plaque reads: 'Amy Johnson C.B.E. 1903-1941 pioneer airwoman Born 1st July 1903 at 154 St George's Rd Hull She made record flights from England to Australia in 1930 (solo 19 days) and to India (solo 6 days). In 1931 to Japan (11 days) and Cape Town (solo 4½ days). In 1933 to U.S.A. In 1934 to India. In 1936 to Cape Town and back.
