The memorial is to Lieut Charlie Edgar Rowley who died in Hampshire on January 19th 1918 aged 19. He served in the Royal Engineers attached to the Royal Flying Corps. He died "in the vicinity of an aerodrome" with two other flight officers (L MacDonald and W R Bailey) when their planes collided in windy weather.
