This is the heart of the large West Howe council estate. The shops comprise (left to right) the West Howe Community Enterprise, the pharmacy, post office, hairdresser's, general store and, on the end, Indian takeaway which is shuttered at present but was open when I took this photo Image the night before last. The library and youth centre are in separate buildings beyond.
