The Cheshire Cheese on the corner of Ashton Road and Bennett Street is a Robinsons pub. It was established around 1858 by William Tetlow. In 1870 it was described as "a very large commodious house, containing six rooms on the ground floor and other equally spacious apartments upstairs. There are refreshment facilities for up to forty people, stabling for horses and a large yard". For many years there was a butchers next door owned by the landlord but it was closed and the premises incorporated into the pub in 1979.
