Wrest Park was the seat of the de Grey family from medieval times until 1859; the present house was rebuilt 1833-39 to designs by its owner Thomas, 2nd Earl de Grey, an amateur architect who based his house on designs published in French architectural books after being inspired by buildings he had seen on trips to Paris. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrest_Park_Gardens
