Easthaven is one of the earliest recorded fishing communities in Scotland. The first recorded owner, Philip de Valognes of the Burgh of Panmure, granted a charter to the monks of Coupar Angus permitting them to build a homestead and the right to charge a toll on fishings. The charter was granted in 1214 when Easthaven was known as Stinchendehavene
