Built in 1955 as No. DP1 (a number never actually carried) ran on the West Coast Main and Settle & Carlisle Lines of the LMR, then tested on the East Coast Main Line in 1959 in anticipation of the construction of the 22 BR Class 55s of the same design and their use on the King's Cross - Edinburgh route from 1961 for 20 years. Here 'Deltic' is seen at Newcastle Central with an Inspection Saloon, in June 1959.
