Older style road direction sign at junction of Foresters Drive and Plough Lane. Originally the B272 crossed the airfield at Croydon Airport. With the expansion of the airport in the 1920s the road was closed to allow larger planes to take off and land safely. Since the airport ceased operating in 1959 and the development of Roundshaw no attempt was made to re link the Purley end of Plough Lane to the Wallington end.
