Now occupied by a firm of accountants/business/tax advisors, Elliot & Co, opposite Weymouth’s railway station is the reconstructed, art deco Queens Hotel. In 1939 the Queens Hotel was designed and built in the art deco style, to mirror the then proposed £80,000 railway station, which was also to be built. The art deco railway station was never completed, only an art deco signal box, which was later demolished during the war. The Queens Hotel, at this time was owned by Eldridge, Pope and Co. the Dorchester Brewery. In 2010 the ground floor of the hotel was completely refurbished, with original art deco features restored and further art deco styling added to enhance and add to the charm of the somewhat neglected building. In late 2011 a positive step was taken to add guest accommodation to the first floor. Closed in 2012 despite refurb.
