The plant occupies part of the site of the hamlet of The Potash which was razed to the ground to make way for the RAF Eye aerodrome. Known as the Eye Power Station and built in 1992, this was the world's first poultry litter-fuelled generating plant. The plant currently processes 150,000 tonnes of chicken litter per year. The resulting combustion ash is sold as fertiliser to the British agricultural industry.
