Coity Castle - the best preserved medieval castle in Glamorgan - was built by the Normans in about 1100. It later withstood sieges by the forces of Owain Glyndwr in the 15th century and continued to be occupied as late as the 18th century. However, by 1833 it was in ruins and is now a scheduled ancient monument. This shows part of the gatehouse.
