It is rare to see the smaller semaphore signal here in the up ("off") position, as it signals a move to the sidings that formerly gave access to the Warcop line branch (part of which is now used as a heritage railway, but otherwise disused). In this instance it was signalling a move off the main line for a terminating train onto the down line on the branch. The train is Northern's Sprinter unit 158815, that had formed the 09.47 from Leeds, terminating here at 11.37.
