The Centenary Bridge is a modern liftbridge which crosses the Manchester Ship Canal, linking Salford and Trafford. The new northern gateway linking Parkway Circle to the M602 motorway via a new dual-carriageway (Centenary Way) and a new lift bridge (Centenary Bridge) across the Manchester Ship Canal, were needed to improve access for Trafford Park companies and at the same time help people living north of the canal to take advantage of job opportunities created in the Park. Building began in 1992, and the bridge opened in 1994, the centenary of the canal which is how it got its name. http://www.poptel.org.uk/trafford.park/2.HTM - Trafford Park Development Corporation (1998)
