Essex thatched buildings in The Street. April Cottage, dating from the 18th century and built of rendered clay lump, has been redecorated and rethatched with an appealing squirrel finial. The newer cottage behind is Longways, at right angles to the road. The 20th century has contributed power cables, TV aerial and burglar alarm to the scene - the modern icing on an idyllic cake.
