The memorial is to Pilot Flight Lieutenant John Charles Paterson NZ/2150 R.N.Z.A.F. age 24; and Navigator John James Spencer Mellar 49175 R.A.F. Both were killed when their Mk VI Mosquito (NS828) from 487 Squadron, Swanton Morley crashed during practice for D-Day on 27th April 1944.
