The school name uses the form Lliswerry. Opinions in the area differ on the 'correct' spelling and road signs are equally inconsistent. Liswerry is an anglicised version of the Welsh place name Llyswyry (Maiden's Court). It appears, then, that Lliswerry with 2 Ls is neither English nor Welsh. Perhaps the supporters of the Lliswerry spelling see it as a typically Newport form, incorporating (as much else in Newport) elements of Welsh and English.
